A major regeneration project is revitalising four local high streets in the city, aiming to boost footfall, support local businesses, and enhance the overall environment.
The Bath High Street Renewal Programme will focus on Twerton High Street, Mount Road, Moorland Road, and Weston High Street, with a series of improvements designed to create more vibrant and welcoming spaces.
The project, which is set to run until 2025, has secured £295,000 in funding from the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), with an additional £158,000 coming from Community Infrastructure Levy and other sources. This brings the total budget for the Bath Local Centres scheme to £453,000.
Key improvements planned for the four high streets include:
- Enhanced public spaces: New street furniture, improved cycle storage, and eye-catching art installations will be introduced.
- Greener environments: In-ground planting, including trees, and seasonal hanging baskets will create a more pleasant atmosphere.
- Community engagement: A range of events, pop-up shops, and even a sensory garden will be introduced to activate the high streets.
- Support for businesses: Shopfront improvement grants and marketing initiatives will help local businesses thrive.
The project builds on local engagement undertaken in late 2021, with concept designs developed early last year. These designs were successfully submitted as part of the funding bid to WECA.
