Bridges Invests in Skills, Fuels Growth and Community

Bridges

The family-run organisation, boasting 45 years of organic growth, has faced limitations due to a skilled labour shortage. To overcome this hurdle, Bridges established training schools in Midsomer Norton and Maidstone, offering technical development programmes to both existing staff and unemployed learners.

Through multiple waves of Skills Bootcamps (Wave 3, Wave 4, and now Wave 5), Bridges has provided training in various areas including:

  • Mechanical/Electrical Installation
  • Hazardous Area working (specific to water industry needs)
  • Off-Site Manufacturing/Assembly
  • Leadership Development
  • Mechanical & Electrical Design Dual Skilling
  • Project Management

This commitment to skills development has yielded impressive results. Over 70 Bridges employees have received upskilling, while 36 unemployed individuals have participated in the Skills Bootcamps. Notably, 14 of these learners have transitioned into long-term employment with Bridges.

"The Skills Bootcamp funding, along with the support of B&NES (Bath and North East Somerset Council) and DWP (Department for Work and Pensions), has been instrumental in our continued business growth and ability to meet client demands," said Steve Spencer, Health, Safety & Technical Development Director at Bridges. "We are incredibly grateful for both the financial and business support provided."

Bridges' story exemplifies the positive impact of Skills Bootcamps on businesses, communities, and individuals. By investing in skills development, Bridges is securing its future while contributing to a more skilled regional workforce.
