Employers across Bath and North East Somerset are being encouraged to join the West of England Good Employment Charter, a free initiative designed to help organisations create better workplaces, attract talented people and support long-term business growth.

The Charter, developed by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, supports organisations of all sizes and sectors to improve working practices and invest in their workforce. It aims to make the West of England a place where people can access secure, fulfilling and fairly paid employment while helping businesses improve productivity, retention and recruitment.

The Good Employment Charter is a voluntary membership and accreditation scheme built around seven key characteristics of good employment:

  • Secure work
  • Flexible work
  • Real Living Wage
  • Recruitment
  • Engagement and voice
  • Developing people
  • Health and wellbeing

Organisations can join as a supporter, committing to make improvements against the Charter's principles, or work towards full membership by demonstrating they meet all seven characteristics.

Why Join?

Creating a positive working environment isn't just good for employees; it also makes good business sense. According to the Charter, organisations that invest in good employment practices often benefit from:

The Charter provides access to resources, support, networking opportunities and events to help employers develop and strengthen their employment practices.
