The Draft Co-living Position Statement is an important document that outlines the Council's interim stance on co-living developments. This model of housing, relatively new and without a standard policy definition, presents unique challenges and opportunities. Unlike traditional housing models, co-living schemes are not specifically addressed in the current B&NES Local Plan, necessitating a clear framework for assessing such proposals.
The Draft Position Statement aims to clarify how the Council will evaluate planning applications for co-living projects, focusing on five key areas:
- Amenity and Space Standards
- Occupancy
- Sustainable Construction
- Affordable Housing Contribution
- Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Liability
